언제 예매해야 저렴할까
프랑스 기차도 버스처럼 다이내믹 프라이싱을 씁니다. 수요가 몰리는 시간대일수록 비싸지고, 일찍 예매할수록 저렴합니다. TGV는 보통 출발 약 3개월 전부터 예매가 열리고, 유로스타는 최대 6개월 전부터 열립니다. 날짜가 정해지셨다면 최대한 일찍 예매하시는 게 유리합니다.

개찰(composter), 아직도 해야 할까
예전에는 플랫폼 입구의 주황색 기계에 표를 넣어 "개찰(composter)"을 해야 했습니다. 하지만 이 의무는 2023년 1월 1일부로 사라졌습니다. 지금은 티켓의 90% 이상이 디지털(QR코드)이고, 게이트나 검표원이 QR코드를 스캔하는 것 자체가 확인 절차를 대신합니다.
그래도 헷갈리신다면
휴대폰이나 이메일로 QR코드가 있는 티켓을 받으셨다면 따로 개찰하실 필요가 없습니다. 다만 일부 구간에는 아직 개찰기가 남아 있을 수 있으니, 안내판에 개찰 관련 문구가 보이면 그 안내를 따르시면 됩니다.
플랫폼은 언제 뜰까 — 미리 조바심 내지 마세요
전광판에 플랫폼(voie) 번호가 안 뜬다고 불안해하지 마세요. 보통 출발 20분 전에 확정되고, 상황에 따라 5분 전에야 뜨기도 합니다. 탑승 자체는 출발 2분 전까지 가능합니다.
즉 미리 플랫폼 앞에서 기다리기보다, 대합실에서 전광판을 보다가 번호가 뜨면 그때 움직이셔도 충분합니다.

When to book for the best price
French trains use dynamic pricing, just like the buses. Prices climb during high-demand periods and drop the earlier you book. TGV tickets typically go on sale about 3 months before departure, and Eurostar opens booking as early as 6 months out. If your dates are set, booking as early as possible works in your favor.
TGV Inoui vs OUIGO — what's the difference
Both are high-speed trains run by SNCF, but they're built for different travelers. TGV Inoui is the standard (premium) product, while OUIGO is the budget option.

Always double-check which station your departure is booked from. Even within Paris, these are completely different locations — getting this wrong can cause serious trouble on travel day.
Do you still need to validate (composter) your ticket?
In the past, you had to stamp your ticket at an orange machine near the platform entrance — this was called "composter" or validating. That requirement ended on January 1, 2023. Today, over 90% of tickets are digital (QR code), and having the gate or a conductor scan your QR code serves as the validation itself.

If you received a QR-code ticket by phone or email, you don't need to validate it separately. That said, a few routes may still have validation machines in place — if you see signage referring to validation, just follow those instructions.
When does the platform get announced — don't panic early
Don't stress if the platform (voie) number isn't showing on the board yet. It's typically confirmed about 20 minutes before departure, and sometimes not until 5 minutes before. Boarding itself stays open until 2 minutes before departure.
In other words, there's no need to camp out in front of a platform early — waiting in the main hall and watching the board is more than enough; just move once your number appears.

We once heard about a traveler who had a digital QR-code ticket but had also heard an old rumor that "you'll be fined if you don't validate," so they wandered the station for ages hunting for a validation machine. They never found one, boarded anyway, and nothing happened.
