파리 근교 당일치기, 이동 시간순으로
오늘 하루로 되는 곳과 안 되는 곳을 먼저 갈라놓았습니다
파리 근교 여행지를 검색하면 대개 이런 목록을 만납니다. 베르사유, 지베르니, 샹보르, 슈농소, 퐁텐블로, 샹티이, 메스… 이름이 쭉 나열되고 사진이 예쁩니다.
그런데 이런 목록에는 문제가 하나 있습니다. 베르사유와 샹보르가 같은 줄에 놓여 있다는 겁니다. 베르사유는 기차로 40분 거리라 오전에 나갔다 점심 먹고 돌아올 수 있지만, 샹보르는 루아르 강가에 있어서 하루를 통째로 써도 빠듯합니다. 이름만 보고 일정을 짜면 여행 하루가 통째로 어긋납니다.
1. 출발 전에 알아야 할 함정 세 가지
추천 목록보다 이게 먼저입니다. 아래 세 가지를 모르고 가면 하루가 날아갑니다.
함정 1. 베르사유 궁전은 월요일에 닫습니다
가장 흔한 실수입니다. 궁전은 월요일 휴관입니다. 대신 그날 정원은 무료로 열려 있습니다.
월요일에 베르사유를 넣으실 거라면, 궁전 내부는 포기하고 정원만 보는 일정이라는 걸 알고 가셔야 합니다.
함정 2. "정원은 무료"라는 말이 항상 맞지는 않습니다
베르사유 정원은 원칙적으로 무료입니다. 그런데 분수쇼(Musical Fountains Show)나 뮤지컬 가든이 열리는 날은 정원에만 10유로가 붙습니다.
2026년 기준으로 4월 1일부터 11월 1일까지, 주로 화요일과 토요일, 일요일이 여기 해당합니다. (풀액세스 티켓을 사시면 이 요금이 포함돼 있습니다.)
"무료라던데 돈을 받더라"는 후기가 나오는 이유가 바로 이겁니다. 속은 게 아니라 그날이 분수쇼 날이었던 겁니다. 참고로 분수쇼는 따로 돈을 낼 만한 볼거리이기도 하니, 알고 가시면 오히려 그날을 노리셔도 됩니다.
함정 3. 지베르니는 1년에 다섯 달 문을 닫습니다
모네의 집과 정원은 4월 1일부터 11월 1일까지만 엽니다. 11월부터 3월까지는 휴장입니다. 정원에 씨를 뿌리는 시기이기 때문입니다.
즉 겨울에 파리에 오신 분은 지베르니를 일정에 넣을 수 없습니다. 개장 기간 운영 시간은 10시부터 18시까지이고, 마지막 입장은 17시 30분입니다.

먼저 전체 그림입니다. 아래 시간은 파리 시내에서 가장 가까운 역까지의 기준입니다.

오전에 나갔다 오후에 파리로 돌아올 수 있는 거리입니다.
베르사유 궁전
약 40분 · 월요일 궁전 휴관
설명이 필요 없는 곳입니다. 다만 다 보려고 하면 하루가 모자라고, 요령껏 보면 반나절로도 됩니다. 궁전 내부와 정원 중 어디에 무게를 둘지 미리 정하고 가세요. 정원은 생각보다 훨씬 넓어서, 끝까지 걸으실 계획이면 그것만으로 몇 시간입니다.

샹티이 성
약 30~40분 · 베르사유보다 한산합니다
휘핑크림을 뜻하는 크렘 샹티이의 이름이 이곳에서 왔습니다. 그런데 이 성의 진짜 무기는 크림이 아닙니다.
성 안의 콩데 미술관은 루브르 다음으로 프랑스에서 두 번째로 큰 고전 회화 컬렉션을 가지고 있습니다. 정원은 베르사유를 설계한 르 노트르의 작품입니다. 그런데 관람객은 베르사유와 비교가 안 되게 적습니다.

아침에 출발해 저녁에 돌아오는 일정입니다.
오베르쉬르우아즈 — 반 고흐의 마지막 70일
약 1시간~1시간 20분 · 4~10월 주말과 공휴일에 직통 열차
파리 근교 추천 목록에서 자주 빠지는 곳입니다. 성이 없기 때문입니다. 그런데 성 열 개보다 이 한 곳이 오래 남을 수 있습니다.
반 고흐는 1890년 5월 20일 이 마을에 도착해 라부 여관에 묵었습니다. 동생 테오가 정신질환 전문의이자 예술 애호가였던 가셰 박사에게 형을 맡긴 것이었습니다.
그는 이곳에서 생의 마지막 70일을 보냈습니다. 그리고 그 70일 동안 70점이 넘는 그림을 그렸습니다. 거의 하루에 한 점입니다.
1890년 7월 27일 들판을 걷다 스스로 총을 쏘았고, 이틀 뒤인 7월 29일 세상을 떠났습니다. 마을 공동묘지에 묻혔고, 동생 테오가 그 옆에 나란히 누워 있습니다. 두 무덤은 담쟁이로 함께 덮여 있습니다.
마을이 작아서 여관, 가셰 박사의 집, 교회, 밀밭, 묘지가 모두 걸어서 이어집니다. 그가 마지막에 그린 풍경 앞에 그대로 설 수 있다는 것이 이곳의 힘입니다.
가는 법 요령. 4월부터 10월까지 토요일, 일요일, 공휴일에는 파리 북역에서 직통 열차가 있습니다. 오전 9시 38분에 출발해 10시 22분에 도착합니다. 그 밖의 요일에는 환승이 필요하고 한 시간 20분쯤 걸립니다. 가능하면 직통이 있는 날에 맞추세요.
보르비콩트 — 베르사유의 원본
약 1시간 + 셔틀 · 이야기가 가장 좋은 곳
여기에는 프랑스 역사에서 가장 값비싼 집들이 이야기가 있습니다.
재무총감 니콜라 푸케가 이 성을 지었습니다. 건축은 루이 르 보, 정원은 앙드레 르 노트르, 장식은 샤를 르 브룅이 맡았습니다. 당대 최고를 한자리에 모은 겁니다.
1661년 8월 17일, 푸케는 완성된 성으로 루이 14세를 초대해 성대한 연회를 열었습니다. 몰리에르가 쓰고 직접 출연한 연극이 있었고 불꽃놀이가 있었습니다. 아무도 본 적 없는 규모였습니다.
문제는 그 성이 당시 왕이 가진 어떤 건물보다 훌륭했다는 것이었습니다.
3주 뒤인 9월 5일, 푸케는 낭트에서 총사대장 다르타냥에게 체포됐습니다. 종신형을 받고 피네롤로 요새에 갇혔고, 20년 가까운 유폐 끝에 1680년 그곳에서 죽었습니다.
그러니까 베르사유는 보르비콩트를 확대하고 더 정교하게 만든 결과물에 가깝습니다. 순서를 지켜서 보시면 훨씬 재미있습니다. 보르비콩트를 먼저 보고 베르사유에 가시면, 어디서 무엇을 가져다 키웠는지가 그대로 보입니다.
지베르니 — 모네의 정원
기차 45분 + 셔틀 · 11월~3월 휴장
모네가 직접 가꾸고 그린 정원입니다. 수련 연못과 일본식 다리가 그림 속 그대로 있습니다. 정확히는 그림이 정원을 따라간 게 아니라, 정원이 그림을 위해 만들어졌습니다. 모네는 그리기 위해 이 정원을 설계했습니다.
생라자르역에서 베르농(Vernon)까지 기차로 약 45분, 거기서 셔틀이나 택시로 갈아탑니다. 파리 시내에서 출발하는 직행 셔틀버스도 있는데 교통 상황에 따라 1시간 30분에서 2시간 걸립니다.
휴장 기간을 다시 확인하세요. 11월 1일부터 3월 31일까지는 문을 닫습니다.
퐁텐블로
기차 약 40분 + 버스 · 베르사유보다 조용합니다
파리에서 퐁텐블로-아봉역까지 직통 기차로 평균 46분, 빠른 편은 37분입니다. 하루 40편 가까이 다니니 시간 맞추기도 어렵지 않습니다. 역에서 성까지는 버스를 타야 합니다.
여러 왕조가 800년 가까이 손을 댄 곳이라 양식이 층층이 쌓여 있습니다. 그리고 나폴레옹이 유배를 떠나기 전 근위대에게 작별을 고한 계단이 여기 있습니다. 베르사유가 화려함이라면 퐁텐블로는 시간의 두께입니다.
프로뱅 — 중세 도시 통째로
약 1시간 20분 · 유네스코 세계유산
파리에서 남동쪽으로 약 90킬로미터. 2001년 유네스코 세계유산에 등재됐고, 등재 명칭이 "프로뱅, 중세 시장 도시"입니다.
12세기와 13세기에 샹파뉴 백작령의 대표적인 시장 도시였고, 그 시절의 성벽과 거리가 통째로 남아 있습니다. 성 하나가 아니라 도시 전체가 유산이라는 점이 다른 목적지와 구별되는 지점입니다. 아이와 함께 가기에도 좋습니다.

추천 목록에 자주 섞여 있지만, 하루로는 어렵습니다.
루아르 고성 — 샹보르, 슈농소, 슈베르니
1박 권장
파리 근교 목록에 이 이름들이 들어가 있는 걸 자주 봅니다. 그런데 루아르는 파리 근교가 아닙니다. 강을 따라 성들이 흩어져 있어서, 하루에 다녀오면 이동으로 대부분의 시간을 쓰고 성 하나를 겨우 보게 됩니다.
정말 보고 싶으시다면 1박을 잡고 두세 곳을 묶어서 도시는 것을 권합니다. 렌터카가 있으면 훨씬 수월한 지역이기도 합니다. 하루짜리 버스 투어도 있지만, 차 안에서 보내는 시간이 길다는 점은 미리 아셔야 합니다.
랭스와 에페르네 — 샴페인
1박 권장
샴페인 산지입니다. 카브(지하 저장고) 견학과 시음이 핵심인데, 시음이 있는 일정에 당일 왕복을 붙이면 마음이 급해집니다. 게다가 마시고 운전할 수 없으니 렌터카와도 잘 맞지 않습니다.
랭스에는 역대 프랑스 왕들이 대관식을 올린 대성당이 있어서, 성당과 샴페인을 함께 보시려면 하루로는 빠듯합니다.
메스
1박 권장
독일 국경에 가까운 동쪽 도시라 분위기가 파리와 확연히 다릅니다. 다만 거리가 있어 당일 왕복은 이동에 하루를 쓰는 셈 입니다. 룩셈부르크나 독일 쪽으로 넘어가는 일정에 끼워 넣으면 효율이 좋습니다.

4. 실전 요령
- 역까지 시간에 30분을 더하세요. 앞에서도 말씀드렸지만 이게 가장 흔한 계산 착오입니다. 역에서 목적지까지 버스나 셔틀을 타야 하는 곳이 많습니다.
- 돌아오는 막차를 먼저 확인하세요. 근교 노선은 파리 시내 메트로만큼 자주 다니지 않습니다. 특히 일요일과 공휴일에는 배차가 줄어듭니다.
- 휴관일을 먼저 확인하고 날짜를 정하세요. 목적지를 정한 다음 날짜를 맞추는 게 아니라, 그 반대가 안전합니다. 프랑스의 문화 시설은 월요일이나 화요일에 쉬는 곳이 많습니다.
- 파리 교통패스로 커버되지 않는 구간이 있습니다. 파리 시내 티켓과 근교 노선은 요금 체계가 다를 수 있으니, 출발 전에 해당 노선 티켓을 확인하세요.
- 렌터카는 목적지에 따라 다릅니다. 루아르처럼 성들이 흩어져 있는 곳은 차가 훨씬 낫고, 베르사유처럼 기차역이 바로 붙은 곳은 차가 오히려 불편합니다. 주차가 어렵기 때문입니다.

Day Trips from Paris, Sorted by Travel Time
Which ones actually fit in a day, and which ones don't
Search for day trips from Paris and you'll get a list: Versailles, Giverny, Chambord, Chenonceau, Fontainebleau, Chantilly, Metz. Names in a row, all with lovely photographs.
There's a problem with lists like that. Versailles and Chambord end up on the same line. Versailles is forty minutes away — out in the morning, back after lunch. Chambord is on the Loire, and a full day there is tight. Plan from the names alone and you lose a day of your trip.
1. Three Traps to Know Before You Go
These come before any recommendation. Miss them and you lose the day.
Trap 1: the Palace of Versailles closes on Mondays
The most common mistake. The palace is shut on Monday. The gardens, however, are free that day.
If Versailles has to be your Monday, go knowing it's a gardens-only visit.
Trap 2: "the gardens are free" isn't always true
The gardens are free as a rule. But on days with the Musical Fountains Show or the Musical Gardens, a 10-euro charge applies to the gardens alone.
For 2026 that runs 1 April to 1 November, mainly on Tuesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. (A Full Access ticket already includes it.)
That's the source of every "they told me it was free and then charged me" review. Nobody was misled; it was a show day. And the fountains are worth paying for, so knowing this, you might deliberately choose one.
Trap 3: Giverny closes for five months of the year
Monet's house and gardens open only from 1 April to 1 November. From November through March they are closed — it's the sowing season in the garden.
So a winter visit to Paris cannot include Giverny. In season, hours are 10:00 to 18:00, last admission 17:30.

Forty Minutes: Half a Day Is Enough
Close enough to go out in the morning and be back in Paris by afternoon.
Palace of Versailles
About 40 min · palace closed Mondays
It needs no introduction. But note that trying to see everything won't fit in a day, while a selective visit fits in half of one. Decide in advance whether the interiors or the gardens matter more to you. The grounds are far larger than people expect; walking them properly is a few hours by itself.

Château de Chantilly
About 30 to 40 min · far quieter than Versailles
Crème Chantilly, the whipped cream, takes its name from here. But the cream is not this château's real asset.
The Musée Condé inside holds the second largest collection of old master paintings in France after the Louvre. The formal gardens are by Le Nôtre, who designed Versailles. And the visitor numbers are nowhere near Versailles.

Out in the morning, back in the evening.
Auvers-sur-Oise: Van Gogh's last seventy days
About 1h to 1h20 · direct trains at weekends and holidays, April to October
Usually missing from day-trip lists, because there's no château. And yet this one place may stay with you longer than ten châteaux.
Van Gogh arrived on 20 May 1890 and took a room at the Auberge Ravoux. His brother Theo had placed him in the care of Dr Gachet, a specialist in mental illness and a devoted supporter of artists.
He spent the last seventy days of his life here. In those seventy days he painted more than seventy canvases — very nearly one a day.
On 27 July 1890, walking in the fields, he shot himself; he died two days later, on 29 July. He was buried in the village cemetery, and Theo lies beside him, the two graves covered together in ivy.
The village is small enough that the inn, Dr Gachet's house, the church, the wheat fields, and the cemetery all connect on foot. Being able to stand in front of the landscapes he painted last is what gives this place its force.
A practical tip: from April to October, on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays, a direct train runs from Paris Gare du Nord, departing 09:38 and arriving 10:22. On other days you'll change trains and it takes about an hour and twenty. Aim for a direct day if you can.
Vaux-le-Vicomte: the original Versailles
About 1h plus shuttle · the best story of any of these
This château carries the most expensive housewarming in French history.
Nicolas Fouquet, superintendent of finances, built it. Architecture by Louis Le Vau, gardens by André Le Nôtre, decoration by Charles Le Brun — the finest talent of the age, assembled in one place.
On 17 August 1661, Fouquet invited Louis XIV to a spectacular party at the finished house, with a play written and performed by Molière and fireworks on a scale nobody had seen.
The difficulty was that the house was finer than anything the king then owned.
Three weeks later, on 5 September, Fouquet was arrested at Nantes by d'Artagnan, captain of the musketeers. Sentenced to life, he was locked in the fortress of Pignerol and died there in 1680 after nearly twenty years of isolation.
Versailles, in other words, is largely Vaux-le-Vicomte enlarged and elaborated. See them in order and it pays off: visit Vaux-le-Vicomte first, and at Versailles you can watch exactly what was taken and scaled up.
Giverny: Monet's garden
45 min by train plus shuttle · closed November to March
The garden Monet planted and painted. The water lily pond and the Japanese bridge stand as they do in the pictures. More precisely, the paintings didn't follow the garden; the garden was made for the paintings. Monet designed it in order to paint it.
Take a train from Gare Saint-Lazare to Vernon, about 45 minutes, then a shuttle or taxi. Direct coaches also run from central Paris, taking an hour and a half to two hours depending on traffic.
Check the closure again: shut from 1 November to 31 March.
Fontainebleau
About 40 min by train plus bus · quieter than Versailles
Direct trains from Paris to Fontainebleau-Avon average 46 minutes, the fastest 37, with close to forty services a day, so timing is easy. A bus links the station to the château.
Successive dynasties worked on it for the best part of eight centuries, leaving styles stacked in layers. It also holds the staircase where Napoleon said farewell to his guard before going into exile. If Versailles is splendour, Fontainebleau is depth of time.
Provins: an entire medieval town
About 1h20 · UNESCO World Heritage
Ninety kilometres southeast of Paris, and inscribed by UNESCO in 2001 as "Provins, Town of Medieval Fairs".
It was a principal fair town of the Counts of Champagne in the 12th and 13th centuries, and the walls and streets of that period survive intact. What sets it apart from the other destinations is that the heritage isn't one building but the whole town. It also works well with children.
TIER 3
Not Really Day Trips
These appear on day-trip lists regularly. They don't fit in a day.
The Loire châteaux: Chambord, Chenonceau, Cheverny
Stay overnight
These names turn up on "near Paris" lists constantly. But the Loire is not near Paris. The châteaux are spread along the river, so a single day means spending most of it travelling and barely seeing one of them.
If you want them, take a night and group two or three. It's also a region where a car helps considerably. Day coach tours exist, but know in advance how much of that day is spent seated on the coach.
Reims and Épernay: champagne
Stay overnight
Champagne country. Cellar tours and tastings are the point, and pairing a tasting with a same-day return makes for a rushed afternoon. It also rules out driving yourself.
Reims additionally holds the cathedral where French kings were crowned, and cathedral plus champagne is a tight fit for one day.
Metz
Stay overnight
An eastern city close to the German border, and it feels markedly different from Paris. But the distance means a return trip spends the day in transit. It works far better folded into an itinerary continuing toward Luxembourg or Germany.

4. Practical Notes
- Add thirty minutes to the station time. As above, this is the commonest miscalculation. Most destinations need a bus or shuttle at the far end.
- Check the last train back first. Regional lines don't run at metro frequency, and service thins further on Sundays and holidays.
- Check closing days before fixing the date. Choose the date around the destination, not the other way round. Many French cultural sites close on Mondays or Tuesdays.
- A Paris travel pass may not cover the journey. City tickets and regional lines can price differently, so check the ticket for your specific line before setting off.
- A hire car helps for some, hurts for others. For scattered sites like the Loire, a car is far better. For Versailles or Chantilly, where the station is right there, it mostly creates a parking problem.
- Consider bringing lunch. Restaurants around these sites tend toward tourist pricing. Where there are gardens, bread and cheese carried from Paris is both cheaper and more enjoyable.
